RYAN KENT has made enough moves in his career to know that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Ibrox, therefore, is now very much home sweet home for a player that is as settled on the pitch as he is off it these days.

When Kent was asked about his future at the end of his loan stint at Rangers two years ago, he spoke of the importance of putting down roots, of finding a manager that had belief in him and a club where we could leave a lasting impression rather than a fleeting one.

The winger had clocked up the miles and made stops at Coventry, Barnsley, Freiburg and Bristol City before being reunited with Steven Gerrard in Glasgow. Rangers immediately felt different to Kent, and that remains the case today.

It would only be natural if the lure of a wage rise and the chance to play in the Premier League would have been attractive to Kent this summer. He takes heart from the interest from Leeds United but was never tempted to leave Ibrox.

Kent said: "I am in a really good position at the moment, I am enjoying my football and I am playing with a smile on my face, which is important.

"I feel that gets the best out of a player when he is comfortable and in a happy place.

"In terms of the interest from elsewhere, it is always nice to get interest from a Premier League club but right now I am in a good position and I am happy where I am.

"I am happy. I get to, well not under the current situations, play in front of 50,000 diehard supporters every week, play Europa League football and play at a good, competitive level. Right now there is no reason for me to be elsewhere."

It is inevitable that Kent will depart Rangers in the coming years and the only hope that fans can have is that it happens at a time and a price that suits all concerned.

There are many factors that convinced Kent that Rangers was the right place to move to when he left Liverpool. His relationship with his manager is right at the top of the list.

Kent said: "As I have touched on in the past, I feel like all of those loans that I have had really benefitted me and helped me to where I am today in terms of the experiences that I have had, learning different philosophies from different coaches, the experiences of not playing at certain places.

"That has all built me up to be the player that I am and I can use those fundamentals to add to my game now. I am in a comfortable, happy position with Steven Gerrard and he is getting the best out of me.

"When you have got a player that you have idolised growing up, that has played at the top level and that has achieved such amazing things in football, you can only learn from the best.

"He is getting the best out of my game, he puts his trust in me and gives me confidence week in week out to go and express myself. Steven and the other coaches are great on the training ground, they are improving me week in week out and getting numbers into my game, which is an important goal for me this year. I am pleased I have been able to do that."

Three goals from six appearances is just the kind of form that Gerrard needed Kent to produce in the opening weeks of the campaign. It will, of course, attract potential suitors but the focus in the here and now is clear for the 23-year-old.

Kent said: "I think right now I am in the best position I have been in during my career.

“Sometimes performances can get overlooked if you are not adding numbers to your game. I feel that has happened in the past.

“Now that I am able to put in performances with goals, it is an added bonus. I know the most important thing I can add to this team is goals, being an attacking player.

“There are areas of my game I can take to another level if I do keep improving myself. I’m not getting complacent or feeling that I have done enough on the pitch already. I always want to push myself and try and get to new heights.

“My ultimate goal right now is to win trophies with Rangers. That is something I’ve definitely put my mind to that I want to accomplish this year.

"I don’t know where my future will take me. I want to put myself in positions where I can challenge myself against the best players about. If that is the Premier League in the future, then maybe.”
