Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday insists the club can't afford to lose Alfredo Morelos as he's still the best striker at Ibrox.

Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten joined in the summer but Halliday is convinced his old pal Morelos remains Gers' top attacker. That's why, the midfielder says, Morelos has to stay.

Fitness and attitude have both been questioned about the Colombian this term so far. But Halliday again has backed the frontman to overcome any problems.

"He's still their best striker," Halliday said on Si Ferry's Keeping the Ball on the Ground. "If he's fully fit and fully committed he's still their best striker. They can't lose Alfredo.

"They can't have him sitting on the bench for too long because he is the type of guy, they're trying to get him fit, but he's the type that if he looks at a plate of chips he'll put on three pounds.

"He puts on weight like that, so the longer they have him sitting on the bench, how is he going to get fit? How's he going to get sharp?

"The difference in overall squad between Celtic and Rangers is the biggest difference. When Celtic are struggling they can bring on an Elyounoussi, Leigh Griffiths. It's good [Rangers] have now got another couple of strikers to help."
