ALBIAN AJETI has warned Scottish Premiership defences that the partnership between himself and Odsonne Edouard is only going to get better after the pair both notched in the 5-0 win over Ross County at the weekend.

Neil Lennon reverted to the 3-5-2 formation that served Celtic so well last term, giving Ajeti the nod to start up front alongside Edouard as the Swiss striker nears full fitness.

Once he is up to speed, and as the relationship between the strikers develops further, Ajeti is confident that they can prove a massive handful for any defence.

“The first game we were together was very good,” Ajeti said. “We played very well, we both scored, we kept a clean sheet, which was also important. Our defenders played very well and offensively we did a great job, even if it was our first game. There is still a lot [to do], but we are on our way.

“We are training day by day together, the days are getting better also in training. We just need to improve ourselves, our connection, our relationship on the pitch.

“I can push him, he can push me, we both can just improve each other, so it is a good relationship.”

Ajeti has managed to score on all three of his league appearances for Celtic so far despite not yet playing a full match, so the notion that he may have more to come will be an exciting one for the Celtic support.

“I just wanted to be happy here and was looking forward to starting with me new team,” he said.

“I told you from the beginning I feel very confident, I feel very comfortable and this is then the result of it.

“I think if you are in front of the goal you have a chance to score, this is just a quality you have or don’t have. It doesn’t matter if you are fit enough or not. I’m sure I’m not 100% of fitness; I’m trying to get there. But as I said I’m working hard to get close to 100%.

“Confidence was never a problem of mine. I always had a lot of confidence. Actually, to be fair, after the year I had at West Ham I was just happy to go anywhere and play and Celtic has given me this opportunity.

“I’m very happy, I really appreciate it, and I want to give the best back that I can.”
