Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has landed a hammer blow on Rangers after revealing he will not allow Jacob Murphy to leave the club on loan.

Gers are keen on the winger and have been in touch with the player's representatives and club in recent times over a potential deal being done. However after Murphy put in a terrific performance against Morecambe in a 7-0 win, Bruce altogether ruled out any move for Murphy this season.

The manager has been delighted with his player and his willingness to fight for a place in the first-team throughout pre-season. "I won’t be letting him out on loan – not after a performance like that," Bruce said.

"He deserves to stay with us and he’s improved enormously. I’ve been very, very pleased."

We exclusively told recently how Murphy WAS interested in a move to Ibrox but that it would be unlikely he'd be allowed to leave Newcastle after spending last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

Murphy opened up on his own thoughts following his performance, saying: "Hearing that now has given me a lot of confidence. We’ve had several conversations and he keeps telling me ‘keep patient, keep working hard’, which I have been doing.

"I knew when I get an opportunity I have got to perform and I felt I did that today. I just want to keep getting opportunities to show what I can do for this club. I feel like I have taken (my chance) but I have got to keep going. That’s just one game.

"I am happy with how I played and I want to kick on from here."
