Preston manager Alex Neil will be without Daniel Johnson for his side’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Stoke on Saturday.
The Jamaican has missed the last two matches with a groin problem and Neil expects Saturday’s clash to come too soon for him.
We told earlier this week how Rangers are keen to land the attacking midfielder as soon as possible.
Johnson is reportedly keen on a move to Glasgow in a deal that could be worth up to £3 million. He is out of contract this summer, meaning his value is lower.
The 27-year-old has been in and out of Alex Neil's squad, with the Preston manager admitting recently Johnson's future is "not in his (Neil's) hands".
Rangers draw with Hibs at the weekend, coupled with injury problems and a mounting injury list means Gerrard needs reinforcements. Kemar Roofe was missing at the weekend, and Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo are already side lined.
