Rangers announced new signing Bongani Zungu in hilarious fashion last night - using a classic Still Game clip to mark the occasion.

The South African midfielder joined the Light Blues on a season-long loan deal from French side Amiens after a somewhat drawn out summer process. But, when the club did finally reveal their success in signing the player, they did so with brilliant footage from the popular Scottish comedy show.

In an iconic moment from the programme - taken from actors Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan's original stage version of the comedy - characters Jack, Victor and Winston are playing a game naming all the countries around the world where the pensioners had slept with women.

Victor went first before Winston took his turn, but the scene takes a poignant turn when Jack begins to reveal the story behind the first encounter he had after his wife passed away. As his story reaches its crescendo, Winston chimes in with the punch line, yelling 'SOUTH AFRICA!' to beat the other two for distance covered in true Still Game fashion.

Fans loved the reference with thousands liking and sharing the video. And even Zungu himself got in on the action, tweeting: "Love it", with a laughing face emoji.

Steven Gerrard was delighted to finally get the deal over the line after insisting all summer he needed midfield reinforcements. He told the club's website: "Bongani fits the profile of player that adds further strength and depth to our midfield. We made it clear that we wanted a player who will enhance our squad and starting XI. We believe Bongani does this.

“We wanted a dominant midfielder with the right profile who can enhance the team and compliment other players we have . We have monitored this situation all summer and now feel it’s the right time.

"Our board have been very supportive throughout the window with seven new signings. We believe we have a squad in place that will compete in all competitions, both domestically and in Europe. This is a pleasing transfer for us and we look forward to Bongani joining up with the squad."
