Neil Lennon has snapped back at Charlie Nicholas after the ex-Celtic striker slaughtered the club's transfer signings.

Nicholas criticised Celtic for opting for the 'cheap option' with their signing of AC Milan defender Diego Laxalt on a season-long loan. The pundit also claimed Lennon would be 'annoyed' with his window where he made six signings including Shane Duffy, Albian Ajeti and David Turnbull.

But the Hoops manager was not happy with Nicholas's comments and insisted the former Arsenal hitman has been negative about Celtic for YEARS. He also revealed his delight at the summer window, pleased with his signings as well as being able to keep hold of his star men including Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer.

"If we had signed Messi and Ronaldo, Charlie still would have found fault with it," Lennon said. "He's been negative about the club for years. Charlie doesn't think for me, he doesn't speak for me."

"We wanted to tidy the squad up. We’ve brought real quality in," he added. "I’m delighted with the strength and depth. Now we’ve kept all our main assets and it’s been a very good window for us in terms of bringing players in and keeping the players that we wanted. I woke up this morning absolutely delighted, delighted with squad of players and certainly with the Laxalt signing.

"We’ve came out of the window very strong and we’ve got great depth. We’ve kept all our best players and added international quality."
