Celtic dud Carlton Cole has warned Jack Wilshere against joining Rangers - because he’d struggle on plastic pitches.

Former West Ham midfielder Wilshere has been linked with a move to Ibrox after he was released from his contract in the Premier League.

But Cole - who spent a season at Parkhead where he scored just once in the cup against Stranraer - reckons Wilshere would seriously struggle with the artificial pitches in Scottish football.

Speaking from experience with his own knee injuries during his poor spell at Celts, ex-West Ham striker Cole told talkSPORT: “It would be a bit too cold for him. Plus you guys up there have artificial pitches.

“When I played up there I had knee problems but some of the grounds had astroturf and I couldn’t play.

“As soon as I play on it or train on it I’m out for a week with swollen knees so it wouldn’t be great for him.”

Wilshere has a history of injuries including a knee problem which kept him out for four months while at Arsenal.

He also has suffered recurring ankle issues which could potentially flare up again should he play on plastic.

The former Arsenal ace has been linked with Gers and posted a cryptic message on social media hinting at a potential switch to a new club. One report even claimed the Glasgow outfit are in ‘advanced talks’ with his agent.
