PHILIPPE MONTANIER believes Standard Liege warmed up for the visit of Rangers by facing the 'best team in Belgium' on Saturday afternoon.
A last minute penalty from Nicolas Gavory was enough to earn Liege a point at home to Jupiler League leaders Club Brugge.
Standard are fourth in the Belgian top flight ahead of their Europa League showdown with Steven Gerrard's side and boss Montanier said: "An interesting match with good intensity against, in my opinion, the best team in Belgium.
"I am somewhat frustrated with our first half, in which we failed to take the lead and then conceded a goal ourselves. Nevertheless, we managed to make Bruges tremble in that second period and still have that goal at the end.
"We are a young team that has played with great enthusiasm against a Bruges team with a lot of experience. We have to keep improving."
