CELTIC suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of AC Milan in their opening game in the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Rade Krunic and Brahim Diaz gave the Italians a two-goal advantage and Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back for Neil Lennon's side before Jens Petter Hauge sealed the three points with a third for the Rossoneri in stoppage time.

Celtic started the game in their usual 3-5-2 formation but following an underwhelming first-half display, Lennon shuffled the deck at the interval and switched to a 4-2-3-1 shape.

Former Hoops striker Chris Sutton took to social media in the aftermath of the defeat to share his thoughts on "another disappointing night" for his old club - adding that he has "no doubt" that Lennon will seriously regret not starting the game with a flat back four.

Posting on Twitter, Sutton wrote: "No doubt Neil Lennon will regret not going with a back 4...

"Laxalt very good and good to see Rogic back with some nice touches...

"Can’t get away from it though another disappointing night for Celtic..."
