STEVEN GERRARD will be patient with European goal hero Kemar Roofe as he looks to get the striker up to full speed at Ibrox.

Roofe has become a social media sensation following his stunning strike in the win over Standard Liege on Thursday night.

The sublime skill - as he won the ball in Rangers' territory and then scored from the halfway line - earned rave reviews from Gerrard in the aftermath of a 2-0 Group D victory.

But the Ibrox boss won't overload Roofe in the coming matches after he marked his return from an injury lay-off in stunning fashion for Rangers.

Gerrard said: "We need to get Kemar up to speed. I don’t think we have had him yet at 100 per cent. He got really close to that before he got his latest injury and then he missed a month, which was frustrating for everyone.

"I think everyone is expecting me to all of a sudden plunge him in every game now because of the goal, but that won’t be the case.

"We will treat him with care and we will get him up to speed at the right time. When he is ready, he will come back into the team."
