Celtic target Alfie Doughty has suffered a serious injury that is likely to keep him out 'for some time'.

The left-sided player had been on the Hoops' radar this summer with a view to signing him up to cover at left-back and compete with Greg Taylor for a starting berth. Celts had two bids booted out by his club Charlton.

The defender remains on the wish list of Neil Lennon who is understood to be willing to enter into pre-contract negotiations with the player in January as his deal at The Addicks runs out this coming summer.

Doughty, 20, faces a lengthy spell on the sideline now, however, after picking up what appears to be a serious hamstring injury against Northampton. Manager Lee Bowyer confirmed the news. He said: "It doesn’t look good at all. I’m not going to go into too much detail but from what I understand, he’s going to be out for a while.

"I don’t know how long but it’s not good. Obviously, he was running flat out in the game on the weekend and someone nudged him in the back. It’s quite similar to that Stephy Mavididi. Do you remember when Stephy was here and the fella gave him a nudge from behind.

"He ended up doing his hamstring then. It’s quite similar to that, he was in his full stride and the fella has nudged him. His body tried to adjust and that’s how he’s done it."
