SCOTT BAIN 7: Night of ups and downs. Crucial stop from David’s penalty to keep Celtic two ahead. Got away with one after a clanger as Botman hit the bar, then was beaten at near post for Lille’s first.

JEREMIE FRIMPONG 7: Great cutback for Celtic’s second, picking out Elyounoussi in the area, and was usual ball of energy up the right-hand side.

KRISTOFFER AJER 6: Was solid in the first half before pulling up with an apparent groin strain just after the interval. His absence would be yet another huge injury blow for Celtic.

SHANE DUFFY 6: Started solidly, but handed Lille route back into the game with needless clip on David to give away penalty. Bailed out by Bain, but needs to show more leadership in dealing with set-plays.

DIEGO LAXALT 7: Solid in the tackle and a threat going forward. Very promising start to his Celtic career.

SCOTT BROWN 6: Little bit sloppy early on, and while he showed his worth with some key tackles and blocks, he was slow to get to Ikone for Lille’s second.

CALLUM MCGREGOR 7: Revered for his passing and technique, but his workrate here was phenomenal. Won the ball high up the pitch on occasion and put in a huge shift.

RYAN CHRISTIE 5: Full of running and got into good positions, but decision-making was off on the night. Uncharacteristically squandered several decent openings and switched off at Lille’s first.

OLIVIER NTCHAM 7: Looked eager to impress upon return to his homeland, and he did so for the most part. Used ball well and no question marks over his effort levels.

MOI ELYOUNOUSSI 9: Rattled in a beauty to put Celtic ahead and then steered home a second to put them in dreamland. Remained a threat all night.

ALBIAN AJETI 7: Goal disallowed when offside, then missed a glorious opportunity when blazing over from six yards or so. Did well to feed Elyounoussi for opener though and involved in second too.

NIR BITTON (for Ajer, 53’) 5: Made his return after suffering from Covid-19 and was under the cosh.

ODSONNE EDOUARD (for Ajeti, 64’) 4: Also made his return, but couldn’t offer too much.

ISMAILA SORO (for Brown, 81’) 3: On to help steady ship.

TOM ROGIC (for Christie, 81’) 3: Couple of nice touches.

STEPHEN WELSH (for Ntcham, 81’) 3: Helped see out game.
