FORMER Rangers defender Jon Flanagan is expected to clinch a deal with Belgian Pro League outfit Charleroi this week.
The 27-year-old has been without a club since leaving Ibrox at the end of last season and has been linked with the likes of Fleetwood Town and Amiens in recent months.
Herald and Times Sport understands Flanagan is now closing in on a move to the Stade du Pays after holding talks and undergoing a medical with Charleroi.
The former Liverpool defender made 40 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side after joining the Gers in the summer of 2018 and provided back-up to James Tavernier and Borna Barisic.
Flanagan was unable to dislodge either from their starting spots on a regular basis and he was allowed to leave Ibrox ahead of Gerrard’s third campaign as boss as he put his faith in Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey to challenge his first choice full-backs.
Charleroi are currently top of the First Division A following their 3-0 win over Cercle Brugge on Saturday and boss Karim Belhocine could now add Flanagan to his ranks in the coming days.
