JAMES TAVERNIER is confident a renewed focus will stand Rangers in good stead this term as they maintained their unbeaten run with victory over Kilmarnock.

The Ibrox skipper converted from the penalty spot to net his 10th goal of the campaign and earn Steven Gerrard’s side a crucial Premiership win.

The Gers have found the going tough at Rugby Park in recent years but this was a test of their title credentials on an afternoon where they moved nine points clear of Celtic.

And Tavernier is determined to only focus on the job in hand as Rangers aim to keep up the momentum that has been built in the opening months of the campaign.

Tavernier said: “Delighted to get the three points. It wasn’t really the performance we wanted to put in but this is a tough place to come.

“In previous years they’ve taken points off us so we’re delighted to get the win and the clean sheet.

“Greegsy pulled off a fantastic save towards the end of the game but we limited them to chances and had to work well as a defensive unit to do that.

“Coming off a European win the weekend domestic game is always going to be tough. So to get the three points, the clean sheet, we couldn’t have asked for anymore.

“We know there’s room for improvement in the way we play but we showed another side to our game – how resilient and how good we can play.

“We’re really focused. Game-by-game we’re really focused on the job in hand.

“The gaffer and the management team, we all spoke about it at the start of the season.

“That’s what we’ve been doing when we’ve been coming into games because we know these were the speed bumps that affected us last season.

“It’s about making sure we don’t make the same mistakes, take it game-by-game as if it’s a final and trying to get maximum points every time we play.”
