Scotland face their date with destiny on Thursday evening as they face off against Serbia in the Euro 2020 play-off.

Steve Clarke's team will be aiming to deliver the goods for a desperate Tartan Army who have been waiting two decades for a trip to the finals of a major tournament.

The Scotland squad is full of talent and Clarke has arguably been able to pick his strongest pool of players to date for his biggest game as a manager.

But who will get the nod in his starting line-up? Here Herald and Times Sport has predicted how the Scots will shape up.

Formation 3-5-2

David Marshall

Has been outstanding in Scotland's unbeaten eight game run. Craig Gordon has been recalled but Marshall will definitely get the nod between the sticks for the Dark Blues.

Scott McTominay

Some supporters don't see the Manchester United star as a defender, but in Scotland's last couple of games he has shown that he is more than capable of playing at the back. McTominay also offers a route out of defence and is confident with the ball at his feet.

Declan Gallagher

His Scotland rise may have surpirsed some, but Gallagher is without doubt one of the first names on Steve Clarke's teamsheet these days. The big defender is both strong in the tackle and commanding in the air so expect him line up in the centre of a back three.

Kieran Tierney

Was ruled out of the last round of fixtures due to Covid-19 protocols, but will be determined to play his part in a huge night for his country. Tierney is starring at the top level for Arsenal so should easily slot back into Scotland's backline.

Liam Palmer

Another who missed last month's international fixtures, but offers something different down the right flank. Stephen O'Donnell performed well in October, but Palmer offers more of a threat going forward, while also being solid defensively.

Ryan Jack

Jack could be utilised in a sitting role just infront of Scotland's back three. Has performed brilliantly for Rangers of late and will be hopeful of taking that onto the international stage. Will be tasked with breaking up Serbia's attacks and setting Scotland on the counter.

Callum McGregor

Probably hasn't performed as well as he would like for his country in recent times, but offers a calm head and real energy in the middle of the park. McGregor is also capable of a bit of magic with a defence splitting pass, which could prove vital.

John McGinn

Star performer for Aston Villa against Arsenal at the weekend. A threat going forward but also someone who will work their socks off to get behind the ball. Will be asked to get up and support the frontline as much as possible.

Andy Robertson

The skipper will be given his usual role as a left wing back. Always solid defensively and a threat from the flank too. We see Robertson week in week out producing pinpoint deliveries from wide for Liverpool - let's hope for more of the same on Thursday night.

Ryan Christie

Celtic maybe haven't been up to scratch in recent weeks, but this man has still been performing well. Will likely be playing just behind the striker in the hope that he will pick up on loose balls to create a bit of magic in the final third.

Lyndon Dykes

The QPR frontman has been brilliant since deciding that his international future lies with Scotland. Link up play will be important against Serbia. He needs to ensure that he holds the ball up to allow his teammates to get up in support.
