STEVEN GERRARD insists Rangers won't think about top spot in Group D until their Europa League qualification has been clinched.

The Gers host Standard Liege at Ibrox on Thursday night knowing that a win would be enough to see them reach the last 32 of the competition.

Gerrard's side would then head to Poland with victory over Lech Poznan and first place in the section firmly within their sights.

But the 40-year-old is only focused on the first job in hand as Rangers look to follow up on their impressive away win over Liege back on home soil.

Gerrard said: "That is the plan and what we are looking to achieve and any small gains you can get in the group you have always got to try and achieve.

"It will be a difficult group but we are at home, we are in a good place, confidence and belief is really high at the moment and we are on an unbeaten run that we want to try and protect and continue.

"We know that Standard have got to come here and try and win the game so we will be aware of that and that will play some part in our game plan knowing that they are in a more desperate situation than us.

"It is a very interesting game and one that we are all looking forward to.

"We want to try and do both (qualify and top the group) is the answer. I know people will probably think that if we were to get the result we want that next week becomes irrelevant.

"That is not the case. We want to try and keep winning games of football, keep the run going and approach every game the same with the attitude of trying to win.

"Next week is too far ahead, we have got something right under our noses that we need to focus on and if we commit to this game I am sure we can get the result we want.

"Then we will turn our attentions to Ross County. For us, the games in the future are a million miles away. The only one that is important is the one right in front of us."
