KILMARNOCK and St Mirren have been punished by the SPFL for breaching Covid-19 safety regulations, with the two Premiership clubs served with suspended fines and awarded 3-0 walkover defeats for being unable to fulfil their league fixtures.
An outbreak of coronavirus at Rugby Park led to the Ayrshire side's game against Motherwell, orginally scheduled for Friday 2 October, being postponed pending an investigation from Scottish football's governing body.
Killie admitted to two protocol breaches at the tribunal - a failure to maintain physical distancing on the team coach and also at a pre-match meal - and have subsequently been handed a suspended £40,000 fine, with a 3-0 win awarded to Motherwell.
St Mirren, meanwhile, admitted they had committed the same breaches as Kilmarnock, as well as failing to maintain social distancing at training and allowing some players to share travel arrangements to and from the training ground.
As a result, Motherwell and Accies - who the Buddies were due to play on 17 and 24 October respectively - have been handed 3-0 walkover victories, as well as a suspended £40,000 fine.
Reacting to the tribunal's decision, a spokesman for the SPFL said: “We note the admission by each of Kilmarnock and St Mirren that they breached SPFL Regulations and commend both clubs for the measures that their boards have recently put in place to avoid a repeat of the circumstances that led to the postponement of these matches in October.”
