Aaron Hickey has confirmed Celtic made an offer to sign him from Hearts this summer.

The former Hearts defender swapped the Scottish Championship for Serie A with a move to Bologna, where he has already made an instant impact with eight appearances in all competitions.

Bayern Munich were also very keen on the 18-year-old and invited him over to the Allianz Arena to take in the facilities as he weighed up his options. Neil Lennon at the Hoops has been an admirer of the youngster, and it was reported at the time that Celts had made a number of offers for the kid.

And now Hickey himself has confirmed in Italian media that Celtic did in fact try to lure him to Parkhead - but Manchester City were NOT interested in his services, despite reports. "[Bayern] are a great club, but Bologna is ‘massive’, they are of a high level, I’m sure I have chosen a big club.

"The thing that most convinced me, when I came here to visit some time ago, is the family atmosphere I felt immediately. I immediately felt a good feeling. Did Manchester City also look for me? I would say no. Celtic? Yes."
