Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has branded goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas AWFUL since he joined the club.

The Greek stopper has been questioned and criticised by fans and pundits alike for some poor performances despite keeping eight clean sheets in 17 appearances. In those 17 games, however, 18 goals have been conceded by the former AEK Athens man.

McAvennie tore into the goalie for his form after the £5million signing was dropped for Scott Bain before the latter was then left out for the deputising Conor Hazard.

And the ex-attacker let rip on Barkas as well as the Hoops' recruitment as a whole. "My God, Barkas is awful,” he told Football Insider. I feel for him though because the boy has come in, made a mistake and then realised how big a club Celtic is. He has been getting slaughtered from pillar to post.

“The recruitment at Celtic needs to be looked at because it has not been good enough, Barkas included.”
