ALLAN MCGREGOR has challenged Rangers to start producing performances as well as earning points as they attempt to maintain their momentum in the Premiership title race.

Steven Gerrard's side opened up a 19 point lead over Celtic at the top of the table with a 1-0 Old Firm victory on Saturday as a Callum McGregor own goal proved decisive at Ibrox.

Keeper McGregor made a string of superb stops to keep Neil Lennon's side at bay during a disappointing first half for the Light Blues but they would see it out to take a huge step towards the league flag.

Rangers have shown a different side to their game in recent times as they have recovered from the Betfred Cup defeat to St Mirren and been able to grind out wins in tight Premiership encounters.

And McGregor is eager to see the Gers get back to their fluent best in the coming weeks during a tricky run of fixtures that could take them to within touching distance of the title this term.

"More importantly the team," McGregor said when asked about his performance and that of Gerrard's side at Ibrox. "I thought we started... we weren't ourselves, I don't think.

"We were quite passive and we let them have easy possession, especially high up. I spoke to you on Wednesday and [said] that the most important thing is winning.

"It is a good trait [to have]. But, at the same time, we need to start getting back to winning and playing well.

"It is not always going to go like that. It is obviously good when it does. But we need to start playing better, I think.

"We have been like that all season and as a team and a unit we have been good at defending. I think that showed."
