Filip Benkovic has returned to Leicester City after an unsuccessful period on loan at Cardiff.

The former Celtic man made just one appearance for the Blue Birds this term and has now been recalled by his parent club.

In a statement, Cardiff said: "Cardiff City can confirm that Filip Benkovic has been recalled by parent club Leicester City.

“We'd like to thank Filip for his services and wish him the best for the future.”

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers said last month that the Croatian's short-term future would be reconsidered if he was not getting the necessary pitch-time he needed to develop.

Benkovic moved to Leicester in August 2018 for a reported £13million fee but is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the club.

It is understood that City will aim to find him a new loan club and with Celtic in the market for central defender Benkovic could fit the bill.

Hoops defender Christopher Jullien faces an extended spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Dundee United last week.

Lennon revealed the extent of his injury, saying: "He’s very important player but it’s a bad injury. We are going to lose him for quite a period of time.

"It will be maybe three or four months so it’s a hammer blow for us."
