ROYAL ANTWERP striker Didier Lamkel Ze has made a grovelling apology after showing up to training wearing an ANDERLECHT jersey on Monday.

The Cameroon internationalist carried out the stunt after being denied a move to Panathinaikos and was turned away at the door, with the incident swiftly going viral.

Ze’s actions infuriated fans of the Great Old in the process - and he remarkably doubled down on Tuesday by threatening to wear a Beerschot shirt, Antwerp’s fierce rivals.

But the 24-year-old backtracked on Wednesday with a statement on his Instagram page as he attempts to salvage his career with the Belgian side, who host Rangers in the last-32 of the Europa League next month.

Ze said: “I want to apologise to the club and to the Antwerp supporters, because they are magnificent and wonderful supporters, they have always supported me.

“I reacted like this because my head was somewhere else, it was not easy for me.

“I really, really want to apologise for this gesture.

“I do not forget my teammates in the locker room, the technical staff who have supported me since my arrival here and I am available for the club if the new coach needs me.”

Franky Vercauteren, who was named as Antwerp’s boss this week, succeeding Ivan Leko, was forced tot tackle the bizarre saga in his first press conference.

He simply stated: “One thing is certain, he [Ze] is still under contract in Antwerp.”
