FORMER Celtic striker Frank McAvennie says the club's decision to go through with their controversial training camp in Dubai 'spits in the faces of supporters'.

The Parkhead club flew out to the United Arab Emirates after losing to rivals Rangers at the start of the month and have faced criticism for travelling internationally during a global pandemic.

The Premiership champions have defended that decision though, insisting that they didn't breach any guidelines to conduct their winter training camp.

However, McAvennie disagrees stronly with that position - arguing that it was 'wrong' to go on the annual trip this year.

He told Football Insider: "Morally, it is wrong that they went to Dubai. I do not think they should have gone. I do not get it.

"I get you can go to Dubai and I get the fact that they want to do warm training but it spits in the faces of the supporters.

"It is wrong for the fans. It has not put a good taste in the supporters mouth. Everyone else in the league is training in Scotland…"
