RANGERS manager Steven Gerrard has posted a message of support for his former England team-mate Wayne Rooney after the ex-Manchester United striker was handed his first role in management at Derby County.
While the pair never played alongside each other at club level, Gerrard and Rooney often locked horns on the park, lining up on either side for derbies involving Liverpool and the Old Trafford club.
They did, however, play together on numerous occasions for the Three Lions over the years, and have been friends ever since.

Rooney, 35, was announced as the new manager of English Championship side Derby County on Friday afternoon - prompting Gerrard to share a message on Instagram congratulating his old pal on landing his first job in management.
The former Liverpool skipper posted a photo of the pair playing for England, with the accompanying message: "What a honour it was to share a pitch with @waynerooney.
"Incredible player and a great lad as well.
"All the best with your future and good luck with @dcfcofficial 🙌🏻👍⚽️#worldclass"
