Rangers have topped ESPN's global power rankings, beating the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus.

Steven Gerrard's side are unbeaten in the Premiership this season and on course to lift the silverware, while blowing rivals Celtic out the water with a 20 point lead at this moment.

And American outlet ESPN have hailed the Scottish giants, with former West Ham, Portsmouth and Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop sticking the Ibrox men atop his list ahead of European heavyweights this week.

Aiming a subtle pop at the quality of Scottish football, Hislop still maintains Gers deserve to sit at the top of the tree. He said: "I had Glasgow Rangers in at two last week, thinking ‘Well, Bayern will give me a couple of weeks to figure out what I’m going to do with Glasgow Rangers long term’.

"Then Bayern lose two on the spin. I’m having to put Glasgow Rangers in at number one, and I’m not sure how they got there. Well, I do, but it’s Scottish football you know, so help me out.

Hislop went on: “Here’s my issue. Glasgow Rangers have lost once since August."

The rankings were publicised before Gers dropped two points away to Motherwell in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
