Celtic and Rangers target Thomas Robert is unlikely to be leaving Airdrie this window, according to his agent.

The Frenchman, son of legendary former Newcastle star Laurent, has been on fire since joining the League One side from Montpellier in a coup last year.

So much so that both sides of the Old Firm have been keeping their eye on him as well as Hearts, Hibs and a host of other top clubs, including sides down south. It had been rumoured that bids were 'not far away' from materialising and manager Ian Murray admitted he would struggle to hold onto the player, albeit he hoped he would.

Now the Daily Record are reporting that agent Paul Tait claims it is unlikely the youngster will go anywhere this window, in large part down to the government shutdown of leagues below the Championship for three weeks,

He said: "It’s unfortunate the league is off until February. It would’ve been good for Thomas to get more game time during January. Not much has been happening and clubs can’t get the opportunity to watch players, so it’s looking like it might be the summer until the right deal comes up."

Robert, 20, has discussed links to both Celtic and Rangers recently, saying: "I've heard about this but I don't like to focus on it. I just try to do my best for the team, score goals and enjoy being on the pitch.

"We'll see what happens in the future. I don't look further than winning the next game. The most important thing is first of all to prove myself with Airdrie and after, of course, it's a dream for me to play with a big team like Celtic, Rangers or in the English Premier League."
