FORMER Celtic defender Gary Caldwell reckons his old team-mate Scott Brown was UNLUCKY to be sent off against Livingston on Wednesday night.

Neil Lennon's men faced the Lions for the second time in less than a week and were once again held to a draw after Jay Emmanuel-Thomas' second-half equaliser ensured both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils in West Lothian.

Parkhead skipper Brown was named as a substitute for the clash against David Martindale's in-form side, and was brought off the bench with around 15 minutes to go.

However, the 35-year-old barely lasted five minutes before referee Jon Moss gave Brown his marching orders when the midfielder lashed out at Livi's Jaze Kabia.

Lennon described the dismissal as 'disappointing' in his post-match press conference - but Caldwell insists that Brown was UNLUCKY to see red.

He told Sky Sports: "It was disappointing. I think he was a little bit unlucky – I don’t think there was an awful lot of intent in it and he’s caught him with his arm.

"It was a red card but I think he was a little bit unlucky.

"I just think that’s the way it’s going for Celtic at the moment. It seems it’s one disaster after another.

"They can’t seem to get any sort of consistency in their performance and the results to try and close that gap on Rangers."
