Celtic manager Neil Lennon continues to feel the heat with his side 20 points behind Rangers in the race for the Premiership title.

The Northern Irishman says he will not walk away from the club despite their poor form, but that has not prevented speculation as to who may replace the boss when and if the board decide to take action.

Bookies have suspended all bets on former Bournemouth gaffer Eddie Howe becoming the next man through the Parkhead gates, but BBC Sport host Chick Young reckons the holders missed a trick not hiring their former player John Hughes who was a free agent before going in to take over at Ross County - where he has managed victories over Aberdeen (4-1), Hibs at Easter Road (2-0) and a point against St Johnstone (1-1).

Meanwhile Lennon's Covid-ravaged squad have drawn their previous three games following defeat away to Gers at Ibrox. And asked if Lennon is still the man to salvage Celtic's season, Young told BBC Sportsound: "What Celtic, I think, if we take Neil out of the equation for a moment, the one man who would have been salvation for Celtic was staring them in the face andthe work he's doing at Ross County has proven that.

"John Hughes, where Celtic are at the moment, would have been an absolute perfect fit."

Former Rangers striker Steven Naismith, now at Hearts, was quick to shoot down Young's claims, insisting Hoops fans would NOT have been happy with Yogi in charge. He added: "On the back of Brendan Rodgers, the success they've had, the signings they've made, that's what Celtic have seen. The fans have enjoyed the football, winning trophies. For me they need to move back to that level, that will appease the fans."
