STEVEN GERRARD has refused to be drawn on potential moves for Bournemouth duo Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh but admits Rangers are 'active' in the transfer market this month.

The Light Blues have held initial discussions with Bournemouth regarding Simpson and Ofoborh amid growing interest in their services from clubs south of the border.

Cardiff City - who this week sacked boss Neil Harris - have had an offer for Simpson accepted by the Cherries, while Charlton manager Lee Bowyer fears he could be priced out of a move for Ofoborh after an impressive debut campaign in the Championship.

Rangers remain in the hunt for both players as Gerrard plans for the future at Ibrox and a move for Aberdeen forward Scott Wright is still on the cards this month.

Gerrard informed Dons boss Derek McInnes of his intention to speak to Wright after his side's win at Pittodrie a fortnight ago and Rangers are still interested in doing a deal to bring the 23-year-old to Ibrox before the close of business in January.

Gerrard said: “Nothing has changed on [the Scott Wright] situation. Scott is an Aberdeen player and I very much respect that.

“In terms of the two [Bournemouth] names, they are two of maybe 20 or 30 names thrown at me and us this week.

“There’s not really much to add to it. We won’t speak about any player who belongs to any other club.

“But I’ll repeat what I’ve always said - we are actively always trying to improve the group. We are always having recruitment meetings, trying to stay on the front foot.

“We are not just trying to think about the now - we think about the short, medium and long term in improving the group.

“So we are active, we are making inroads with certain clubs and certain players. But I don’t want to disrespect any club and name any names.”
