John Hartson believes Peter Lawwell may have 'had enough' of abuse from Celtic fans who blame the chief executive for being a major factor in failing to win 10 in a row.

The Hoops hero insists the league is over and rivals Rangers have won, with a 23 point gap already opened up and no sign of Steven Gerrard's men stopping any time soon in their relentless pursuit of their first title in 10 years.

Mr Lawwell announced this morning that he will retire at the end of the season which was news greeted with happiness by sections of the support, including the Green Brigade who hit out with a 'one down, more to go' putdown on the club's CEO. And Hartson believes the abuse - including numerous banners being unfurled demanding his resignation this term - may have been the straw that broke the camel's back and convinced Lawwell now is as good a time as any to call it a day.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former striker said: "With the team this season, Rangers have caught up and Rangers are going to win the league, many supporters have seen Lawwell as the man to blame.

"There’s a lot of bad blood at the club with Celtic being 23 points behind Rangers. I think Peter might well have just had enough.

"I’ve been Neil Lennon’s biggest supporter, I’ve got behind him more than any other ex-player, I’ve been the one to the detriment of getting a lot of criticism.

"I think there needs to be a complete change from top to bottom. Rangers haven’t just won the league by five or six points."

Hartson reckons Neil Lennon must leave the post as manager after a dismal season.
