Brighton boss Graham Potter has provided an update on Shane Duffy's loan deal at Celtic, insisting the defender will remain at Parkhead until the summer.

The Irishman's spell in Glasgow has not gone the way anyone wanted with the club 23 points behind Rangers and Duffy's performances criticised on a near-weekly basis.

But Potter insists the defender will not be returning to the Premier League side this season and reckons he will continue to fight it out to ensure a better end to the season than the start.

"Shane is at Celtic for the season," Potter said. "That was the arrangement, he was keen to go there and Celtic were keen to have him. It’s a season-long loan and we will assess at the end of that season, it’s probably not gone as well as he would have liked.

"But I have said before that Shane is a fighter, he is a good character and a good guy. I am sure he will be fighting to make things better."
