BRANDON BARKER has revealed that Rangers teammate Kemar Roofe sold him on a loan switch to Oxford United.

The Ibrox outcast joined the SkyBet League One outfit on loan for the remainder of the campaign on deadline day, having made just 13 appearances for the Gers this term.

And the 24-year-old  tapped into Roofe’s prior knowledge before committing to the deal.

The striker spent 18 months at Oxford, scoring 34 goals and becoming a firm fans’ favourite before moving on to Leeds United in the summer of 2016.

Barker said: “I spoke to Kemar Roofe and they both told me what a brilliant club Oxford is and how well they have been playing.

“It’s a big move for me but I am really looking forward to it.

“Karl [Robinson, Oxford manager] was a big part of my decision but I have also known Cameron Brannagan [former England under-20s teammate] for a long time.

“I like the way they play the game, I see a team on a fantastic run of form and I just can’t wait to be part of that and hopefully help them push on from the position they are currently in.”

Oxford are currently poised in eighth spot, just three points outside the playoff positions, and thrilled boss Karl Robinson firmly believes Barker can help them realise their promotion dream.

He added: “Make no mistake, this is a fantastic signing for this football club. He is such a creative player but he has also grown up in a magnificent youth system at Manchester City and then this season he has been part of a very good Rangers side. “For him to make a move to Oxford at this stage of his career speaks volumes about the reputation we have as a club for helping talented young players develop and get even better.”
