The forward appeared to be the subject of criticism from his manager after the loss to St Mirren on Saturday, and has to be content with a place on then bench for his side’s clash 4-0 victory in Ayr as his replacement Albian Ajeti notched a goal.
And Lennon has revealed he wasn’t pleased with his forward’s output at the weekend.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I wasn’t happy with the strikers at the weekend, {the decision to drop Griffiths} is purely tactical."
Lennon also admitted the need for a reaction from his side.
“I’m hoping it’s one that is hurting and uses the professional pride to play for the club and get a positive result,” he said when asked what type of performance he hoped to see.
“I need a response myself, I need a reaction from weekend.
“The mental side of this game has to be important. The mentality has to be a lot better than we showed on Saturday.”
