Former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell reckons the return of the Europa League will come at the right time for Rangers to maintain their Premiership title push.

Gers struggled against Hamilton last weekend in a 1-1 draw and manager Steven Gerrard gave his players a rocket at full-time. Despite holding a 21 point lead at the summit over rivals Celtic, the Ibrox men have been warned against complacency by their manager.

Caldwell, though, believes their upcoming game against Royal Antwerp on the European stage on February 18 will be enough to galvanise the star men once again and ensure they keep up the form they have shown in the league so far.

"The Europa League campaign starting back up again could be a good thing to focus the minds again," Caldwell said. "Get them into a different competition where they have to be at their best. I think it's difficult when you're as far ahead as they are, complacency, from a manager's point of view, you always have to guard against that.

"You can see it might be seeping in a little bit to Rangers recently, I think. Performance-wise recently they haven't been as good as they have been earlier in the season and have just scraped through games that earlier in the season they were winning very convincingly.

"Steven Gerrard will know he'll have to be on top of the players. The Europa League starting back up again will give that fresh challenge and different competition and might see them kicking on from here."
