Liam Shaw has become Celtic's newest signing after putting pen to paper on a pre-contract deal at Parkhead.

The youngster was confirmed as a soon-to-be Hoops ace by manager Neil Lennon who has already started building towards next season with his first signing.

Shaw, 19, will finish the current campaign with Sheffield Wednesday before joining up with his new teammates in Glasgow.

But who is Liam Shaw? What position does he play? How many appearances has he made in the English Championship?

Here's all you need to know.

What has his career looked like so far?

Shaw has been in Sheffield Wednesday's academy since the age of eight-years-old. He made his senior debut for the Owls against QPR back in July 2020 in a 3-0 win.

He spent time on loan at Chesterfield where he played five times at the age of just 18 before returning to Hillsborough. He has since become more of a regular at Wednesday, playing 14 times this season, scoring once against Middlesbrough in December.

What position does he play?

Shaw is a versatile player most often utilised as a midfielder. He can also play as a defender, sometimes used as centre-half with Sheffield Wednesday's youth squads.

He most often plays in a box-to-box role.

What Neil Lennon said

"Of course I’m involved in the planning for the next transfer window. I haven’t said that I wouldn’t be [here next season].

Glasgow Times:

"I’ve not yet spoken to Dominic McKay, but I speak to Peter (Lawwell) every day. I speak to Dermot (Desmond), I speak to Nick Hammond. We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So, that’s done and we’re looking ahead."

What else has been said about Shaw?

Sheffield Wednesday wanted to keep their promising talent at Hillsborough and, before the deal was done, caretaker boss Neil Thompson said: "It is not just about the youngsters, but keeping players who can do a job for us - whether that is this season, next season and in years to come. It’s an ongoing situation."

What Wednesday fans are saying

"In terms of the Liam Shaw to Celtic rumours. Him leaving #SWFC on a free transfer would be nothing short of a disaster. By all means I'd be happy to gouge Celtic for a hefty fee with generous sell on clause but the compensation offered for bosman U24s is disgraceful" - Owls Analytics

Glasgow Times:

"Bloody hope not, it's a sign we've got someone coming through from kids who's looking a decent player, thankfully been a fan he'll want to stay, hopefully. Powers above might think differently, sort him a new contract" - Martin Radford

"Why isn't he on a contract with a big release clause. Hope he stays" - @Richard_SWFC

"If we let Shaw leave we are daft. Don't know if we have offered him a contract yet but get the lad one" - Lewis Evans
