Scots rugby chief Mark Dodson has ruled out Dominic McKay joining Celtic early - but has tipped him for great success when he does take on the role.

McKay will take over from Peter Lawwell as the club's new chief executive in the summer and will have his hands full straight away with the appointment of a new manager at the forefront of his work load.

After Neil Lennon's resignation was confirmed by the Hoops this morning, speculation began to suggest that McKay could be fast-tracked into the position to help with the transition. But Dodson insists the rugby boss is likely to remain in his current role until he completes all the tasks he is dealing with on their behalf.

"From my point of view, what's happening at Celtic is something that is out of my control," Dodson said. "I clearly know that Dom will have a very full in-tray when he gets there. The issue for us is that he has a notice period here and we need stability in our business too. I expect him to be here with us for a while yet."

Dodson has been full of praise for McKay ahead of his departure but some within footballing circles have questioned whether he will be able to make the move into the sport with ease. But the former is sure his colleague will do well for Celtic as he has done during his time with SRU.

He added: "He has been here a decent period of time and he has been instrumental in the transformation of the organisation from a commercial and sporting perspective. He is a really talented guy. I'm close to him and I know what a good operator he is.

"There are different pressures in the two sports. But he is a smart individual and a very experienced operator and I'm sure he will adapt."
