ST JOHNSTONE were handed a major Betfred Cup final boost today when David Wotherspoon was declared fit to play against Livingston at Hampden on Sunday.

But Callum Davidson, the Perth club’s manager, confirmed that his namesake Murray, who suffered a calf injury in a match against Rangers at Ibrox earlier this month, is still a major doubt.

Canadian international midfielder Wotherspoon limped out of his side’s 3-0 win over their Premiership rivals Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday with a groin injury.

The experienced 31-year-old, a Scottish Cup winner with the Saints back in 2014, has responded well to treatment and is available for selection.

However, Murray Davidson, who hasn’t played since February 3, is still fighting for a place in the starting line-up.

“Spoony is fine, Muzz is probably now 50-50,” said Callum Davidson. “He just had a tiny bit of a setback on Monday so we’ll need to see how he is tomorrow.

“He is close, but we’re just not sure how close he is. That’s the only downside to this week. We will wait and see how he is.

“We knew we would have to push him hard for this Sunday so we’ll give him every chance to be available.

“As long as he can fully train on Saturday. I haven’t picked my team yet so I’ll wait and see how he is and we’ll decide after that.

“Spoony is fine, no problems at all. Everybody else is good. We had a couple of hard days’ training, and everyone has come through that fine.”
