Ally McCoist has told of his delight at Rangers securing their first title in 10 years - and predicted that fans will take celebrations to 'new extremes'.

The Ibrox hero was manager of the club back in 2012 during the financial struggles but was ecstatic to see Steven Gerrard and his men secure the top tier trophy with a win over St Mirren. A staggering lead has been opened up on rivals Celtic, one they cannot claw back.

But while Coisty was beaming over his beloved club's success, he somewhat jokingly addressed supporters in their thousands breaking protocols by descending upon Ibrox to celebrate with flares and smoke bombs.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic for everybody involved,” he told talkSPORT. “I really am.

“I’m a little bit concerned though, because you probably saw the scenes outside Ibrox last night after the home game. That was us when we hadn’t won the league yet.

“So I don’t know what is going to happen in the next 48 hours now that they actually won the league, so I think they are going to have to take the celebration to a brand new extreme. But, in all seriousness, I have got to say a tremendous job by Steven and Gary and Michael and indeed most of all the players. It has been a truly remarkable season when you look at the stats, lads.

“You look at the performances – they’ve lost one game – a League Cup tie in the last minute to St Mirren, They’ve won 28 out of 32 league games and drawn four.

“The clean sheet record that they’ve got just now; from start to finish, unbeaten so far in Europe, it has been remarkable it really has and thoroughly deserved.

“Massive congratulations to everybody."
