RANGERS striker Kemar Roofe has been subjected to sickening racist abuse online after his dismissal against Slavia Prague.

Steven Gerrard's side were knocked out of the Europa League at the last-16 stage for the second successive season by the Czechs, who left Ibrox with a 2-0 win under their belts.

Roofe was shown a straight red card for a dangerously high leg as the forward misread the bounce of the ball and delivered a painful-looking but accidental kick to the face of goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar.

Roofe was promptly given his marching orders for the challenge and Kolar had to be subbed off.

It's believed the challenge is what prompted the abuse that appeared on Roofe's Instagram page, where some users left hateful comments that contained racial slurs.

It is one of two controversial incidents from the last-16 tie after one of the Slavia players, Ondrej Kudela, said something to midfielder Glen Kamara that prompted a furious reaction from the home side.

BT Sport pundit Alan Hutton said he heard Kamara shout "racist, racist" in the aftermath as Connor Goldson and Bongani Zungu confronted the referee.

Speaking after the match, Steven Gerrard revealed that Kamara claimed he was racially abused by Kudela.

The Rangers boss could be seen having an animated discussion with the Slavia coaching staff after the final whistle.

He said: "The disappointing thing for me is there are people trying to defend the opposition player - trying to call us liars.
