UEFA have officially launched an investigation into allegations that Slavia Prague's Ondrej Kudela racially abused Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.

The Glasgow club hosted the Czechs in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night, where the visitors progressed to the quarter-finals in a 3-1 aggregate victory.

However, the match was marred by ugly scenes at the end after Kudela could be seen covering his mouth and saying something discreetly to Kamara, prompting a furious reaction from the Finn.

There were unconfirmed reports of a clash between the two sets of players in the tunnel at Ibrox, with Slavia claiming that Kudela was assaulted by Kamara.

After the match, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted that the Ibrox club will back Kamara to the hilt over the allegations, with a club statement released on Friday demanding a "robust and unequivocal response" from European football's governing body.

On Friday afternoon, UEFA confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the 'incidents' via the organisation's official website.

It read: "In accordance with the Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct an investigation regarding the incidents that occurred during the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League Round of 16 second leg match between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha on 18 March 2021.

"Further information regarding this investigation will be made available in due course."
