STEVEN GERRARD will look to utilise the strength and depth of his Rangers squad during a crucial double-header with St Johnstone this week.

The champions booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 victory over Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday.

A Steven Davis strike and Jonjoe Kenny own goal were enough for Rangers as John Kennedy's side were beaten and will now end the season empty-handed.

The Saints now stand between Rangers and a return to Hampden as they prepare to make the trip to Glasgow for the last eight fixture at the weekend.

But the focus first and foremost is on the Premiership showdown at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday as Rangers aim to move a step closer to an unbeaten Premiership campaign.

Gerrard said: "We will approach it like we did in the league. There is still a lot of work to do and we will respect every opponent that we face.

"We have got a league game on Wednesday night that I will make a couple of changes for and we will go and try to stay unbeaten from a league point of view then have the lads ready for what is now a huge game and the priority at the weekend.

"We won’t focus any further than that because that would be foolish and disrespectful to the other people that are left in the competition.

"St Johnstone will pose two tests for us this week and we will have to be ready for both tests.

"That is the idea with having a big squad. Before transfer windows I am banging Ross’ door down and telling board members on board meetings that we need a bit squad with quality, because during the season you have to rely on everyone.

"This has certainly been a squad effort so far and we want to stay ambitious and try to go all the way.

"To do that, we have to use the squad, it is not just about 11 or 14 players."
