Eddie Howe laughed off links to the Tottenham Hotspur job amid ongoing speculation that he is in line to be Celtic's new manager.

The former Bournemouth boss was put on the spot by fellow pundit Tim Sherwood following Spurs' sacking of Jose Mourinho yesterday. Sherwood, an ex-Tottenham boss himself, suggested on DAZN's Premier League coverage that Howe would be an ideal candidate to replace the Portuguese in London.

He said: "Give him the finances and let him build a football club. Let him build a structure, let him build a playing identity.

"I think that's what he (Spurs owner Daniel Levy) needs to do now. He needs to look for a young, up and coming manager... like Eddie Howe."

Howe merely chuckled at the idea before he was let off the hook by the shows' host.

It comes as Howe has been heavily touted as Celtic's number one choice to replace Neil Lennon following his resignation earlier this season. It has been reported that Howe recently met chief shareholder Dermot Desmond and CEO Dominic McKay for private talks down south.

The Englishman is reportedly keen on the role at Parkhead but wants his own director of football in Richard Hughes to work with, while Celts want to bring in their own man.

A source, on behalf of the manager, recently revealed that he is likely to wait until the summer before making any sort of decision. Howe's agent said: "There has been significant interest in Eddie from a number of clubs. However, talks of any deal being close are extremely premature. His plan remains to not return to management until the summer at the earliest."
