Celtic and Rangers, statistically, match up better for the European Super League than a number of its founder clubs, it can be revealed.

The Glasgow giants have been compared with the 12 top clubs around Europe who broke away from traditional competition to form the new-look competition. The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona have all signed up for the controversial league as have other top tier outfits.

But after undertaking significant research into the clubs, as well as both the Hoops and Light Blues, bettingexpert.com found that the two Scottish sides are more than qualified.

The website gives both Celtic and Rangers just a 15 percent chance of joining the money-spinning league. However among the elite, neither looks out of place.

Glasgow Times:

Historically Celtic have played 381 games in Europe while Gers have played 337. Both have played more games than founder members Chelsea (239), Atletico Madrid (323), Man City (161), Spurs (241) and Arsenal (302). Celts have also played one more game than both AC Milan and Liverpool.

Both have more Euro wins than Chelsea, Spurs and City.

The Super League claimed in its proposal that clubs would be given the opportunity to join based on their domestic performance and Celtic and Rangers both stack up in that regard, too. Celtic (111) and Rangers (116) have won more domestic trophies than ANY other club.

Stadium capacity is also taken into account by the betting company, with Celtic (60,000) outranking the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City. Ibrox also outdoes Stamford Bridge.

One area where neither Old Firm outfit can claim to be the best is their European win ratio. Celts hold a 46.19 percent win ratio while Rangers' is 43.03 percent. The lowest of the group.

A bettingexpert.com spokesperson said: “With eight spaces to fill in the new 20-team European Super League, Celtic and Rangers could make a valid case to be included based on their records in Europe - our data shows.

“As it stands, there is only a 15 percent chance of them joining the new disputed franchise, both at odds of 11/2 to make the move. While a move to the Premier League is more likely at 3/1 for either club.

“Nevertheless, a switch away from the Scottish Premiership to either the ESL, or even the Premier League, is likely to be met with anger and echo the views of thousands of fans whose clubs have already made the switch.”
