Jack Hendry has been named the best player in the Belgian Pro League after a season on loan from Celtic.

The Oostende defender was awarded the accolade by respected football magazine Sport Voetbal.

Scotland cap Hendry, 25, was ranked ahead of Junya Ito, Genk's Japanese winger, with a score of 6.48. Ito came in second with 6.45 while Stef Peeters, also of Genk, was all the way back in third with a score of 6.33.

Taking to social media, the centre-half said: "Thank you!! Very happy to be awarded this by @SportVoetbal, great season for the club and now a big push to get into Europe via play offs."

Hendry is still under contract at Parkhead and could perhaps return to the club this summer, however Oostende have a purchase option in their loan deal for the player and could still trigger that clause.

Speaking to Sport Voetbal the player revealed his delight at winning the award, but admitted he is still not certain where his future lies. He said: "I know as much about that as you do: nothing. I thank KVO for being able to show my talent. Ostend has a purchase option and they want to activate it.

"The matter now is to reach an agreement. My wish is to play at the highest level, that is clear. And that can be in any competition."
