CELTIC star Ryan Christie has all the right ingredients to star in the Premier League - according to former Inverness midfielder Danny Williams.

Williams knows the Hoops ace well, given he and Christie played alongside each other at Caley Thistle, and the 33-year-old is convinced that the Scotland internationalist would light up England's top flight.

Christie's current deal at Parkhead expires at the end of next season, meaning Celtic may be forced into selling the attacking midfielder for a cut-price fee this summer - or risk losing him for nothing when his contract is up.

A host of Premier League sides have been linked with a move for the Inverness academy graduate, with Arsenal the latest big name said to be mulling over a move for Christie.

But Williams reckons the Hoops star would tear up the Premier League no matter where he ends up, tipping his old team-mate to perform even better than the likes of Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn or Southampton's Stuart Armstrong - two players who have established themselves as key players for their clubs since making the journey south.

He told the Daily Record: "Players ask who the best you’ve played with is and I always say Ryan.

"I reckon he could easily play in the Premier League. I look at players like James Maddison, who played in Scotland and is now in the Premier League, and I don’t think there’s any difference.

"He’s easily at that level. I played against the likes of John McGinn and Stuart Armstrong.

"They are top players as well and you see how well they have done in England.

"Ryan is every bit as good, if not better.

"It will be interesting to see what happens this summer. I’m sure he loves playing for Celtic and they are a big club.

"There is the challenge of the Premier League, which might appeal to him.

"There’s bound to be interest. Ryan will be at the Euros this summer with Scotland and that’s the biggest stage in the world.

"If he does well, then the phone will be off the hook. The world will be his oyster."
