RANGERS are keeping tabs on Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman but could face stiff competition in the race for the playmaker's signature, according to reports.

Veerman, 22, has been in fine form in the Eredivisie this term, registering seven goals and providing nine assists for Heerenveen.

That hot streak has caught the attention of clubs all over the continent with French outfit Stade Reims and Serie A's Atalanta tracking the talented youngster.

English Premier League side Southampton and Dutch duo Ajax and Feynoord are also monitoring Veerman's situation.

According to the Scottish Sun it will take a sum of around £5million to prise the playmaker away from Heerenveen - with Rangers mulling over a bid of their own.

Such a fee would be a sizeable outlay for the Premiership champions but the Ibrox coffers could be boosted by the sale of Ianis Hagi, who is a transfer target for Spanish outfit Sevilla and Italian giants Lazio.

Cristian Bivolaru, chief executive of Viitorul Constanta (the Romanian club owned by Hagi's famous father, Gheorghe) said: “I don’t think the interest of Sevilla for Ianis is new. It was talked about before he went to Rangers.

“I do know Lazio are also on this track too, so we’ll see what happens.”
