INTERIM Celtic manager John Kennedy is being considered for the club's newly-created sporting director role, according to reports.

Kennedy, 37, took charge of the Hoops first team in February after Neil Lennon resigned from his position and is believed to have been considered to land the gig on a permanent basis.

Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is the Glasgow side's top target, though, and a deal to bring the Englishman to Parkhead is believed to be close.

With chief executive Peter Lawwell also stepping down and being replaced by former Scottish Rugby CEO Dominic McKay, the Hoops are undergoing significant change to the management structure at the club.

A new sporting director role will be created this summer - and according to the Scottish Sun, Kennedy is in the frame for the job.

The Sun claim that the former Celtic defender could find himself moving upstairs at Parkhead - although Manchester City's Fergal Harkin "also remains under consideration".

The report adds that Richard Hughes, the Bournemouth sporting director that Howe wanted to bring to Glasgow, is "unlikely" to make the move north.
