THE SWPL1 season will be played to its scheduled conclusion on June 6, with or without Covid testing.

The clubs, and Scottish Women's Football, had previously agreed the league could be called after 14 games if high cost PCR testing continued.

“I want to thank all SWPL1 clubs for their commitment during what has been a difficult and complex time for all,” SWW chair Viv MacLaren said. “This has been the most exciting and competitive season in the league's history, so it's fitting that it will end with all matches played.”

Glasgow City lead the table with 33 points from twelve games. Rangers have 30 and Celtic 28. Had the league been stopped after 14, the match between Rangers and Glasgow City a week on Sunday would have been the league decider.

The news wasn't so good for the SWPL2 clubs. They haven't played since December and the Scottish Government turned down a request for a return to contact training on Monday.

That won't happen until May 17. Following a short pre-season, the plan is for the eight games needed to complete two rounds of fixtures to be played by July 4.

There are two promotion places available, with Aberdeen looking certain to get one of them. They are seven points clear of Dundee Utd, with Hamilton and Partick Thistle one further behind.

The third tier Championship, which has North and South leagues, has been declared null and void as only a handful of games were played last autumn.
