Shunsuke Nakamura has revealed his most memorable moment as a Celtic player and opened up on the disappointment of following the club this season.

The Japanese playmaker is still regarded as a legend at Parkhead for his cultured style and silky left foot. His highlights on the pitch include Old Firm screamers, free-kick stunners against Manchester United and one very famous chip against Dundee Utd.

It's safe to say the now 42-year-old exceeded expectations when he arrived from Reggina in 2005. However, somewhat unusually, it was not a moment of magic on the park he recalls the most. "Meeting the CEO Peter Lawwell and the manager Gordon Strachan was the most memorable experience for me," he told the Guardian. 

"Before every match, manager Strachan only said to me to ‘enjoy it’. He trusted me and left me to play the way I wanted to play. I am very grateful to him for taking good care of me and my family as well. I learnt a lot from him. Manager Strachan understood that I was the type of player who played by instinct and feeling."

If playing with freedom was his role, Naka must be frustrated watching his former club without any this campaign. Finding themselves lagging way behind Rangers in the league having already surrendered the Premiership title and out of every cup competition.

Still, despite the disappointment, Nakamura remains a supporter. And he's desperate for the Hoops to get back to the top of the mountain domestically. He added: "I still follow Celtic and watch the news and watch the games. It has not been as enjoyable in recent weeks and months as Rangers dominated from start to finish to prevent their Glasgow rivals winning 10 titles in a row. 

"I think Rangers were strong this season and deserved to win the championship. I hope Celtic will use the disappointment of Rangers’ victory to come back and win next season."
